When Arkova Studio came to us, their brief had one line that mattered more than the rest: "we don't want it to look designed." For an architecture practice built on raw concrete and unapologetic structure, anything that felt decorative would have undercut the actual work.

So the identity was built backwards from a subtraction test. Every element the wordmark, the grid, the type pairing had to justify its own existence. If removing it didn't make the layout worse, it didn't belong. That's a harder standard than it sounds, because the instinct in branding is almost always to add one more flourish to make something feel "finished."

The result is a system with almost nothing in it: one typeface, one grid, one accent move repeated with total consistency. It reads as confident specifically because it refuses to prove anything.

Restraint isn't the absence of decisions it's usually more decisions than a "safe," decorated version would have needed. You just don't see most of them in the final result.
